Hakodate, Japan (April 18, 2025)
Otaru, Japan (April 19, 2025)
I am combining our last two stops in Japan as they were relatively uneventful but still worth sharing.
On April 18th, we visited Hakodate. Our day began with a bus trip to the top of Mt. Hakodate. Unfortunately, the weather was a bit hazy, windy, and quite cold, so while the view was decent, it didn’t quite live up to its full potential. On a clear day, it would have been breathtaking. The cable car, which offers stunning views of the city, wasn’t operating due to the high winds, which was a bit disappointing.
We also passed through a park filled with numerous beautiful cherry blossom trees. However, our timing wasn't ideal, as the blossoms were still in the bud stage. A few more days, and the sight would have been spectacular. Afterward, we spent some time browsing local shops before heading back to the ship.
On April 19th, we stopped in Otaru, a charming town known for its picturesque canal. I took several photos of the canal as it was truly a lovely sight. For lunch, we enjoyed an incredible meal at a traditional Japanese restaurant before spending the afternoon shopping. Otaru is famous for its glass shops, where you can find exquisitely handcrafted glassware in a variety of styles, colors, and patterns. One of the shops was especially large, and I couldn’t resist picking up a few beautiful pieces to take home.
